Overview

A matching box sits between the echo sounder transceiver and the transducer and matches their impedance, so that the transmitted energy actually reaches the water and the returning echo reaches the receiver instead of being lost in the cable. The MB-504 is the 200 kHz version used with the 200B-8B transducer and forms part of the standard installation of Furuno’s FE-700 and FE-800 echo sounders, together with the FE-702 distribution box. Without a correctly matched box the sounder loses sensitivity, which is why this is a component worth keeping as a spare on board.
