About Hatteland Technology
A screen for a wheelhouse is a different thing from a screen for an office. It has to stay readable in full sunlight and dim down to near black at night without the colours shifting, it has to take vibration and salt, and it has to remain available in exactly the same version for years, because a bridge is not refitted every two seasons. That is what this brand specialises in.
Which is why the screen often carries somebody else's name. Hatteland's JH series sits behind the radar, ECDIS and bridge systems of Alphatron and JRC among others, sometimes with the system builder's logo on the bezel. Come across a marine multi display with nothing remarkable on it and the odds are good that it came from here.
That makes them attractive on the used market. The housings and the cut-out dimensions have been fixed for years, so a screen off an older bridge will often drop into an existing console without modification. And since the display is usually worn out before the equipment behind it, a replacement is the cheapest way to keep a working installation working.
